Flourishing together as one

Beamish and Oliver Twist

As part of our whole school enrichment project based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, we took all of the children from Reception to Year 6 to Beamish for a Victorian Experience.

It was a wonderful day with lots of activities for each cohort. The lovely weather helped to make this a special day.

We would like to thank the many parents, grandparents and other family members who came on the trip to support us to give the children this experience, we could not have done it with your help.

Below are photographs from the different year groups at Beamish, the theatre groups production of Oliver Twist and examples of the displays in school that showcase the work of the children. These are in the entrance foyer if you wish to pop in and have a look. There are some examples of stories, diaries, recipes, poetry and more.

Reception

Our children in Reception had a fantastic day at Beamish. We took a look around the Pit Village, had story time at Pockerley Old Hall and managed a ride on the steam train.

Year 3

For the children in Year 3 the highlight of their trip to Beamish was taking part in the Toy Workshop.

The children were horrified at the thought of working in the mine at their age.

Year 4

Year 4 had a fun filled day at Beamish. In the morning, they enjoyed a workshop about the development of the safety lamp to use in the mines. They explored the school before taking a trip down into the mine. After lunch, Year 4 spent time looking at the shops and houses then hopped on the tram back to the entrance.

Year 5

Year 5 have had a busy start to the term, visiting Beamish where everyone had a wonderful time, going into the mine, learning in the Schoolroom, playing Victorian games, meeting shopkeepers, tasting the bakers biscuits and talking to the demon dentists!
