OPAL Play

Rationale

Our school believes that all children need opportunities to play which allow them to explore, manipulate, experience and affect their environment. Our school acknowledges the UN Charter on the Rights of the Child, especially Article 31, and supports the child’s right to play.

In order to develop the play provision in school, we are being supported by OPAL Play to maximise the resources (time, equipment and school environment) that are available for our children.

Children from year 1 to year 6 will have the opportunity to go to any area of the yard to participate in the activities that are available.  We will continually review the activities that are available and change or introduce new ones throughout the year.

Our PTFA are providing a lot of help in funding and resourcing our OPAL play journey because of the benefits that every child will experience.

Our Play Charter

We have a Play Charter that was created in consultation with the Young Leaders. They signed it on behalf of their classes. It sets our, in a child-friendly manner, our intention for supporting play for all children.

OPAL GOLD
Last week, Andrea Caine from OPAL Play came into school to complete our final assessment following a year-long programme of work. Andrea was extremely impressed with the investment and commitment that the school has in high quality play for the children at break time and lunchtime. Following, a lengthy audit, she was delighted to award us GOLD which we were delighted to receive. As a school, we have been thrilled with the impact of OPAL and the benefits it has had for the children. Break times and lunchtimes are now a joyous occasion for children and staff with a wide range of areas to play in. We will continue our working relationship with OPAL over the next two years with the aim of achieving Platinum at the next assessment point. A huge thank you must go to the whole OPAL Play team who have spearheaded the initiative, especially Mrs Adams and Mrs Cryer who have gone that extra mile to set up the areas and source the resources. We would also like to thank the PTFA for their wonderful support with purchasing items and also to everyone who has donated items to make this work. A wonderful team effort!

Meet Our Play Team

We were delighted to welcome a new group of children to our OPAL Team. After a rigorous application and interview process 10 Year 5 children we appointed to the position.
