OPAL Play 'GOLD' Award

Last week, Andrea Caine from OPAL Play came into school to complete our final assessment following a year-long programme of work. Andrea was extremely impressed with the investment and commitment that the school has in high quality play for the children at break time and lunchtime. Following, a lengthy audit, she was delighted to award us GOLD which we were delighted to receive. As a school, we have been thrilled with the impact of OPAL and the benefits it has had for the children. Break times and lunchtimes are now a joyous occasion for children and staff with a wide range of areas to play in. We will continue our working relationship with OPAL over the next two years with the aim of achieving Platinum at the next assessment point. A huge thank you must go to the whole OPAL Play team who have spearheaded the initiative, especially Mrs Adams and Mrs Cryer who have gone that extra mile to set up the areas and source the resources. I would also like to thank the PTFA for their wonderful support with purchasing items and also to everyone who has donated items to make this work. A wonderful team effort!

Y6 RAP Event

Last week, Year 6 walked to South Shields Fire Station for their annual RAP event provided by South Tyneside Council. The children were split into groups and worked with a number of professionals on safety related activities. These included Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue, Nexus, RNLI, South Tyneside Road Safety Team and Northern Power Grid. The children enjoyed the activities whilst learning some very valuable safety messages and tips. It was pleasing to hear some wonderful positive comments from the professionals on the children’s behaviour, knowledge and engagement. Well done, Year 6!

Safeguarding Alert for Parents/Carers

We have been informed of an issue with the popular children's book series 'Spy Dogs.' Some of these books contain a QR code that directs readers to a website/domain,. Unfortunately, it has been taken over by a malicious third party that is now hosting harmful/adult content.
The publishers have stated that only specific editions of the Spy Dog book series contain QR codes or URLs that originally led to a safe website. However, this is now compromised. The harmful/adult content is not affiliated with the author or publisher. As a result, the publisher Puffin and author, Andrew Cope have ceased the sales and distribution of these books and are taking legal action to have the site removed.
